The national park covers 738.74 square kilometers and includes the Rajjaprabha Dam and rainforest. It was designated a national park in 1980. The park comprises the largest area of virgin forest in Southern Thailand. Beautiful sandstone and mudstone cliffs rise 300–600 meters above sea level. In addition, the park is traversed by a limestone mountain range running north to south, with its highest point being Khao Wong at 1,272 meters. This mountain range is struck by monsoon rains coming from both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, making it the wettest region in Thailand.
